Radio Group Gears Up for Annual St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Fundraiser

Two Day Radiothon Kicks off February 26

RENO, NV – This year, the push to raise money for the Danny Thomas founded children’s research hospital has particular notoriety: the million dollar mark. The annual Radiothon - broadcast by local radio stations 105.7 FM KOZZ, 104.5 FM KDOT, 94.5 FM KUUB, 630 AM ESPN Radio and 1450 AM Fox Sports Radio – will go live Thursday, February 26 and Friday, February 27 from Internet Auto Rent and Sales, the event’s main sponsor. This year could push the radio event, a decade running , over the million dollar mark for funds raised in Greater Reno - Tahoe.

“With so much doom and gloom regarding the nation’s economy,” says station General Manager, Dane Wilt “it is going to be a tough ask. But, we know there’s something about giving that really makes you feel better. Suddenly, it isn’t all doom and gloom. You are saving children’s lives when you call our Radio-thon and give a few bucks.”

The Radiothon asks local residents to call into any of the five radio stations during the two-day push and become a Partner in Hope. A Partner in Hope agrees to donate whatever they wish; a popular method for donating is a monthly amount via credit card.

“I visited the St. Jude hospital a few years back,” says John Stephens, owner of Internet Auto Rent and Sales, “and it absolutely cut to my core, the importance of the work being done there. Simply stated, keeping this organization funded is the cheapest insurance policy available for every parent.” He went on to say that his personal investment in money and time has been graciously matched many times over by the generous local residents that understand the life and death struggle being fought by parents all over the world. And this year we must all dig deep and continue to support this incredible organization.

About

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility anywhere. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. We are where some of today's most gifted researchers are able to do more science, more quickly. Where doctors across the world send their toughest cases and most vulnerable patients. Where no one pays for treatment beyond what is covered by insurance, and those without insurance are never asked to pay. We've built America's 3rd-largest health-care charity, with a model that keeps the costs down and the funds flowing, so the science never stops. All patients accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay.

  • Mom & Pop Monday is a chance for local businesses to brag about
themselves in 7 seconds or less at 8:40am
  • Free Plug Friday is a chance for non-profit organizations to inform
listeners about various fund-raisers in 7 seconds or less at 8:40am

Spawned from the Buy Local Campaign, Mom & Pop Monday is a chance for local businesses to brag about themselves in 7 seconds or less, every Monday morning at 8:40 am. Cub Country 94.5 has a long been a supporter of local business; from the people that run them, to the people that keep them running. Host of the Music, Mike & Malayna show, Mike Murray says, "It is important, now, more than ever to help the local business thrive. If by giving a business owner our airwaves for seven seconds helps them out, then let's do it. Small businesses make our community thrive, and we want them to remain healthy. If they're healthy, the community is healthy."

As a companion piece, Free Plug Friday is a chance for non-profit organizations to inform listeners about various fund-raisers. This segment runs at 8:40 am on Friday mornings. Malayna Kerton says, "Following the same formula as Mom & Pop Monday, we did not want to neglect the non-profit organizations. Every non-profit organization needs help to promote their activities, and the most important thing to me, and to the station, is making sure we can serve our community."

Listeners are encouraged to call in prior to the segment airing; first come and first served.
